Door Mats Outside

Author: Theodore Category: Door Mats

You can keep dirt at bay if you use door mats outside your front and back doors, and your patio door as well. You might be surprised to see how much dirt guests track into your house, and it will be especially noticeable if you have light colored carpeting. Laying out door mats is an excellent way to reduce your cleaning time, and protect your floors from damage.

Your friends and neighbors may track in quite a bit of dirt each day, especially if the weather is wet. This can harm not only carpet, but hardwood floors as well, if people track in pebbles or the like. Anything that lessens the shine of your hardwood floor is something you'd rather keep outside than indoors. You may have to use deep cleaning methods or replace your carpeting more often if people are forever tracking in dirt and debris.

During snow or rain, a lot of moisture will be tracked into your home, in addition to dirt. This can also damage floors, and it may make hardwood floors dangerously slippery as well. A friend might slip and fall on your floor, which is something you should obviously avoid. Dirty and wet floors are not only unattractive, but they give friends a bad first impression of your home. They may wonder how clean the rest of your house is, if the entryway is dirty and unkempt.

You can lay door mats outside your home as a way to keep outside dirt outside. You can find very attractive or humorous mats too, like the popular “Wipe Your Paws” welcome mat. You can also put little boot scrapers on your porch, like the small porcupine scrapers, which clean the sides of shoes and boots as well as the bottom. Be sure that each door into your home has a mat, because as sure as you only put one at the front door, your kids will track in dirt in the back door, coming in from outdoor play.

A good quality door mat can collect most of the debris and dirt that would otherwise find its way into your home. It can also absorb moisture that you certainly don't want tracked in. Mats will maintain the cleanliness of your home, and will protect your expensive hardwood floor or carpeting. An entrance mat can make your porch more attractive, too, and there are many colors, styles and sizes available. Select a color that won't show dirt too easily, and coordinate the colors with those of your home's exterior, if you can.

Using outdoor mats is an effective way for homeowners to keep their houses looking their very best. Darker colors will show wear less, but they may show clay or dirt more readily. Tan and brown mats work well. Just like an air filter traps contaminates, so a well-made mat will keep most moisture and dirt from the interior of your home. Proper door mats outside your house can not only welcome people to your home, but keep your home clean and welcoming on its own.

Front Door Mats

Author: Theodore Category: Door Mats

When a friend steps onto your porch, they can be greeted by a porch well-lit and front door mats at the door. If you don't have lights on and mats out, it can seem empty and cold on your porch, so warm up the entry to your home with a welcome mat. Door mats are very functional, especially when the weather is wet or snowy, and they can be purchased with cute sayings on them, in addition to the standard “Welcome”.

Door mats grab onto water and dirt so that it isn't tracked inside your home. This is especially important if you have light colored carpeting. These mats can protect your house against all the debris that people's shoes would otherwise drag in. They will keep your linoleum or tile from getting scratched by dirt and pebbles that people get on their shoe bottoms in bad weather.

A welcome mat can also spruce up your home, and give people a smile as they wait for you to answer your door, if you have a cute saying on the mat. People get their first impressions of your home at the front door, and a welcome mat can speak volumes to a guest. These mats can be personalized with prints of the seasons, funny pictures, silly sayings or just printed welcomes. You can find welcome mats in many different styles and materials.

Most welcome mats are made from natural fibers that give you a rustic, course surface. This type of woven material can trap debris easily, and can be quickly cleaned with a brush. These mats don't hold up for many years if they are well-used, but they are usually cheap to replace. Some welcome mats are fabricated from aluminum and several other metals, and they can be found in many different designs that are derived from carvings in wood. Metal front door mats are quite durable and they work well for scraping debris off the bottom of people's shoes and boots.

You can also find mats that are made from polypropylene and rubber, and these defend your home well against heavy rain, mud and snow. These mats are very durable, reversible, they only fade minimally, and they give guests effective traction.

Door mats come in many sizes, and they serve many purposes other than simply keeping dirt from your home. A mat may be a rectangle in front of your door, or a long runway used by homeowners and businesses in hallways or foyers, for extra protection against rain and snow. If you have dogs going in and out throughout the day, a hallway mat or rug is an excellent way to keep their muddy paws from tracking snow and mud all through your house. Long mats can drain and channel moisture away from your floors. You can also find stylish designs in mats, such as those cut into shapes of different objects like people and animals. These may not be as durable as far as keeping out dirt and debris, but they are fun to look at, and these front door mats will give your guests a smile.
