Door Mats

Types Of Door Mats

Door mats have become very popular owing to their dual nature. They are both attractive, causing visitors to have a warm welcome feeling and also serve a purpose to minimize the amount of dust and dirt that is entering into a home. Mats come in different styles and colors and some can even be personalized. Since many people don’t want to spend a lof time cleaning, buying cleaning detergents, vacuuming or even hiring cleaning companies, they prefer to leave the dirt outside, sort of like prevention is better than the cure kind of a situation. This is partly because dirt in the home becomes part of the air that people breathe thereby causing soar throats, breathing difficulties, mouth soars, immunity issues, asthma attacks and even infections. That is why billions of dollars are now being spend on air purifiers and humidifiers to cleanse the air. There is a saying that goes, “prevention is better than cure” and this holds true for air quality as well. There are those of the persuation that it is better to invest in a good rag and leave the dirt outside than introduce it into the house and have to deal with the poor air quality later.

There are different types of door mats as we shall see. One of the most common are the personalized mats where the customer informs the rag company the color shape and writing that will be on the mat. These are especially popular because once the home owner puts this on the door step, he or she wants it to read exactly the way he or she wants the visitors to read. Most people are content with just the words “welcome home” or “home sweet home” or “home is best” and this conveys to the visitor or home comer that they are welcome. Others have people’s names and even seasons of the year such as Christmas and Thanksgiving. The scope of the style shape and writing on personalized mats is wide and is only limited to someone’s creativity.

Door mats come in many materials. Wool is a common material and is very cozy especially if one is bare feet. This are good for inside the house but not outside because they can easily be soiled and can be hard to clean after wards.

There are also those made of plastic. Plastic is easy to clean especially if the house is located in a ranch or farm or country location. This is because in these locations there are fewer paved roads and sidewalks meaning that if it rains then mud can be a problem and you do not want to get into your own home or someone else’s home with shoes or boots or sandals that are muddy. There are also mats made of many other materials such as leather, sisal, afghan and many other material. The range simply depends on the person’s needs and wants. Their cost also depends on the material used and the shape, size and color.

There is a saying, prevention is better than cure and this certainly applies to home cleanliness as wel. Consider a mat at your doorstep.
