When on the door step of the many homes, you will notice on many occassions that people have door mats and rags which either have a welcome home message, a warm picture or design or an interesting fuzzy appeal. No one knows exactly where the idea of mats on the door step originated from but most are in agreement that it is a practice that can be traced back to our ancestral forefathers and is also prevalent in most cultures and nations of around the world. There are many kinds, styles and designs of mats and rags and you will find all imaginable kinds of mats and rags on the doorsteps of many homes. But on the same note, you'll also notice that many lovely homes don't have mats on their door steps. So is it wise to have a mat on your doorstep or not?
Those that have door mats will argue that it is a good idea. This is because they have both cosmetic and aesthetic uses. They have cosmetic uses in that they give the visitor the impression that he or she is welcome. This is because many of them have a welcome home message on them or a fuzzy design that elicits a feeling of comfort. They also make the visitor have the feeling that the owners of that home care for him.
Mats have an aesthetic use in that they trap dust and dirt that is coming into the home. It is reported that if the dust particles that float in the house were eliminated, the instances of flu-like symptoms and ailments would be cut by half. The dust particles that float in the air inside a house are responsible for harboring bacteria, pollen, viruses and fungi which are all culprits in a host of respiratory ailments. Symptoms such as soar throats, mouth soars, nasal inflammations, infections, chest pains and breathing difficulties are also caused by a combination of other factors but are aggravated by bacteria which are hosted by dust. Without door mats, more dust would make its way into the home and cause an unhealthy breathing environment.
Having a mat at your doorstep is also a good because it saves money. Without a mat or a rag to trap dust, the house owner would spend more time and money in cleaning activities. There is obviously an added expense in vacuuming, buying cleaning detergents and these costs are off course aggravated if the house is colossal. Many home owners don't even have the time to clean their own homes and what most of them do is browse the yellow pages and contact cleaning companies. These are companies which charge either per hour, per room or per house. This is the prefered way of keeping the home clean for many people but as much as it is the preferred method, it also adds to the expenses. There is a saying, prevention is better than cure and this certainly applies to home cleanliness as wel. Consider a mat at your doorstep.
